There are dozens of websites that offer a free wedding webpage and the chance to track every conceivable aspect of your upcoming wedding. One of the easiest to use is www.weddingchannel.com.

But every bride we talked with thought we should include a simple checklist of the “big stuff” that belongs on every wedding plan list – regardless of the scale of the event or how long you have to plan for it.

First things first

How much money? Set a budget.

What’s your style? Formal or casual, indoors or out?

Where and when? Confirm the place before you set a date.

Tell the world

Announce it. Local newspapers, your own website, social media make it easier than ever.

Choose your wedding party and confirm they are willing participants.

Start working on a guest list. Have an A and B list, in case editing is necessary.

Make it beautiful and fun

What to wear? Choose a dress, attire for the groom and accessories.

Color scheme? Cake, lowers and décor all low from here.

Dress the wedding party.

Make arrangements for lowers, wedding party, venue and family Choose a cake flavor, style and baker. Taste before you buy.

It takes a village

How will you be captured forever on film? Pictures and video will tell your wedding story for a lifetime. If you don’t hire a pro you need a plan.

Register for gifts. Sign up with several retailers so every guest has an affordable option.

Book the entertainment. Whether chicken dance or chamber music, book early.

Special needs for reception? Do you need outdoor toilets or tents, special lighting or any other specialty item?

What to eat/drink? Trust a caterer to help you stay on budget and bring it all together.

The devil is in the details

Honeymoon? Do your passports and shots need updating?

Rehearsal dinner. What’s the plan? Who’s paying?

Invitations. Formal or not – give guests time to plan.

Have the rings? Gifts for attendants? Something old/borrowed/blue?

Decide on readings and music for ceremony and reception.

Write your vows.

What’s the hair/makeup plan? For her. For him.
